Maintaining Robust Grid Cybersecurity in Expanding Smart Grid Markets (Washington, D.C.)

Thursday, November 20th, 1:30pm- 4:00pm EST

Meeting in New York

According to the US Department of Energy’s 2014 Smart Grid Report, “It is the policy of the United States to support the modernization of the Nation's electricity transmission and distribution system to maintain a reliable and secure electricity infrastructure that can meet future demand growth.”

As smart grids proliferate within energy markets, utilities are realizing the importance of addressing cyber security issues to protect and enhance reliability. Electricity infrastructures are essential for the function of business and society, and any attack on their functionality could pose a massive risk to economic activity. In April 2014, The Department of Energy (DOE) issued recommendations for how the energy industry and its suppliers could integrate cybersecurity protections into power delivery systems. The incident heightened the necessity of physical grid terrorism in addition cybersecurity. As smart grid integration continues to expand, heightened security measures are essential to ensure continued reliability across national grid infrastructure.

This roundtable will explore how cybersecurity has become an integral component, not just an afterthought, of the critical infrastructure and the energy industry.
