Crowdsourcing & Open Innovation for Cleantech and Sustainability

Tuesday, January 14th, 2013, 9:30am - 12:00pm EDT / Streamed Panel Discussion: 7:00am - 8:30am PDT / 10:00am - 11:30am EDT / 16:00 - 17:30 (Paris-Brussels)

Meeting in New York

Location: The Markle Foundation, 10 Rockefeller Plaza, 16th Floor, New York, NY 10020

Corporates, governments, and quasi-public funding institutions are tapping into the crowd to advance sustainable development in a plethora of ways. Last year, the city hosted its first Reinvent Green Hackathon, where entrepreneurs used a data set to create apps that help New Yorkers live more sustainably. At our Solar Financing Task Force Meeting last year, Ben Healey demonstrated the ways that Connecticut’s Green Bank, CEFIA, is using crowdsourcing through its SolarizeCt program to increase the deployment of solar in townships by driving and aggregating demand. Click here to see his presentation. And earlier this year IKEA, Phillips, MARBLAR, and the Climate Group collaborated on an initiative called EarthHack, an open ideation platform crowdsourcing for ways to repurpose electrical appliances to lower carbon emissions.

In this meeting, our experts will discuss the benefits, challenges, and future of open innovation for clean energy and sustainability.

-How are entities crowdsourcing consumer demand, ideas, and funding?

-What are the challenges and risks related to crowdsourcing/open innovation for governments and corporates?

-What are some highlights of GE’s Ecomagination Challenge, and what are its plans going forward?

-How does crowdsourcing and open innovation intersect with the cleanweb (intersection of IT and cleantech)?

-What are some additional ways, apart from SolarizeCt, that CEFIA is using crowdsourcing to increase the deployment of clean energy and energy efficiency (i.e. open innovation RFP’s, crowdsourcing supported loan vehicles)?
