Technip and Nenuphar 2MW Offshore VAWT Project

Wednesday, October 10, 2012, 8:30-9:30am San Francisco / 11:30am-12:30pm New York / 5:30-6:30pm Paris and Frankfurt

Wind Energy | Sustainable Investments

French offshore oil giant Technip has partnered with vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) installer, Nenuphar to pilot Vertiwind, a 2MW prototype in the South of France. They hope to install 13 full-scale multifloater units by 2015. While vertical axis wind turbines have gained popularity in the United States for ‘micro’ or community wind farms, wind engineers are beginning to see the benefits of VAWT’s for the offshore environment. They eradicate the need for large floaters and tension moorings, both of which are very costly. The Vertiwind project has support from the utility EDF, Bureau Veritas, Seal Engineering and IFP EN.

In this meeting, we learn about the adaptability and financeability of the VAWT to different offshore environments.
