Sustainable Product Distribution

Thursday, October 27th, 2011, 8:30am - 9:30am PDT / 11:30am - 1:00pm EDT / 17:30 - 19:00 (Paris-Frankfurt)

Corporate Sustainability | Sustainable Supply Chain

The universe of traditional Supply Chain Management consisted of suppliers, distributors, transportation providers, and the movement of goods between these players. In tandem with the rise of corporate sustainability, current management methods have shifted to incorporate more players as well as increased awareness about efficiency as transportation and product distribution remains a cost intensive component of the supply chain. Transitioning to a sustainable system of movement for inbound supply and the outbound distribution of products is an opportunity to reduce logistics costs and differentiate product offerings in nearly every corporation. This meeting will be a discussion on the different methods corporations can use to streamline transportation, find and partner with strategically located and like-minded suppliers and identify the most economic and carbon efficient ways to move these products.

1.       Transportation and Routing Optimization

  •  How does a company choose between air, ground and overseas freight? What is taken into account?
  • What are the goals when developing product distribution initiatives? Is it cost, carbon, impact to inventory levels, marketing to customers in regard to sustainability and/or time and shortened transit?
  • What innovation is happening in distribution transportation? Green fleets, intelligent transportation management and software systems ect.
  •  How do strategic warehouse and supplier locations aid in penetrating additional markets for companies?

2.       Logistics & Resources to Implement Sustainable Product Distribution

  • What distribution solutions are available to corporations?
  • For outsourced distribution solutions v. software technology and consulting solutions what are the pros and cons?
  • What are the factors that contribute to shifting one’s distribution methods, logistics, and transportation? What is the potential ROI for stream lining product distribution?
  • The first step to creating a sustainable product distribution is tracking current methods and obtaining analytics and data. Data on supply chain is an endeavor in itself and once this data is obtained, who is in charge of turning this information into an actionable plan? What are success stories of companies that have audited their product distribution and made positive changes to cut costs, time and risks in product distribution?
  • Who are the experts in this space and who is spearheading the most innovative product distribution methods?
