What does it take to build a new hotel that is LEED Gold certified? More importantly, what happens after you hang the plaque? This session will take attendees through the design, construction and FF&E process for Hotel Indigo Athens which opened in September 2009. The presenter will highlight the LEED components and what they did or did not cost, and the sometimes hard lessons learned from HVAC decisions through sustainable hard casegoods selection. Attendees will come away with a firm understanding of the LEED process and costs, while hearing real world financial savings, guest experiences, marketing and public relations benefits, and employee experiences. The presenter will offer in-depth analysis of post-occupancy studies looking at actual utility data, guest experience feedback, employee interview results, and marketing/branding opportunities that arose due to LEED certification. Attendees will learn much more than what it takes to earn LEED credits - they will know what has a real impact to a hotel operations' bottom line, occupancy and media exposure.
This presentation will enable attendees to understand:
- The costs and benefits of LEED, with real world costs and data
- How to implement LEED during the design and construction phases of hotel development
- The value of LEED beyond energy savings, including branding, marketing, and guest experience
