A New York Times article reported that Bright Source and SolarReserve’s joint California and Nevada solar thermal storage projects could power “tens of thousands of households throughout a summer evening”. The projects are the first to deploy molten salt technology. This technology has already garnered the attention of investors from Google, Good Energies and Chevron while SolarReserve received a $737 million grant from the Department of Energy.
