Day-to-Day Green: Implementing Sustainable Business Initiatives

Corporate Sustainability

Online Board Meeting

December 14th, 2010 1pm EST

In our December 14th board meeting, we take a very practical approach to greening business. What are the first steps to implementing green initiatives within the office? We will cover the range of approaches, from incorporating sustainability metrics into annual accounting and reports, to introducing green products and supplies, to inciting green behavior within the workforce.

  • How do you assess the efficiency and sustainability of your office operations? What tools exist for measuring the office footprint?
  • How do you present the cost-saving message alongside the sustainability message? What is the cost/benefit of green initatives?
  • What are the low-hanging fruits regarding sustainable upgrades in the workplace(recycling, green office supplies, paperless office, teleconferenceing, computer sleeper states, resource efficiency, utilizing natural light, etc.)? What processes, in terms of day-to-day operations, can be eliminated to streamline performance and improve sustainability?
  • How do you educate and train your workforce regarding sustainable practices and new green initiatives in the office?
