Cloaked in Stealth: The Value of Stealth Mode for Cleantech

Online Board Meeting
Thursday, December 2nd, 2010, 10am - 11am PST/ 1pm - 2pm EST
During the early, developmental stage of a cleantech start-up‘s life-cycle, entrepreneurs have the choice to stay hidden in stealth mode. Is this to mask their one-of-kind technology from competitors, to allow time to develop a winning product and craft a compelling message to peers and consumers, or simply to create a sense of mystery? In this board meeting, we will shine light on the strategy of stealth as it relates specifically to cleantech.
- What are the benefits of stealth mode?
- Does stealth pose a risk of unrealistic expectations? What are the disadvantages and missed opportunities that plague cloaked start-ups?
- Are there pressures and attributes particular to cleantech that push companies to debut earlier than in other fields (government funding, need for market testing, etc.) or to maintain their shroud for a longer period (heavy R&D)?
- How do you interact with partners, competitors, investors, and consumers while in stealth? What messages do you convey?
- Strategies for coming out of stealth (trade show? staggering product launch?).
Speakers:
People Power, Gene Wang, CEO
