Towards a more renewable European energy mix: Technical challenges
February 13th, 2014, 9:15 a.m. - 10:20 a.m.
Réunion à Paris
The development of renewable energy is a key factor for the success of Europe’s energy transition. To significantly increase the share of renewables in the European mix, technological challenges will need to be addressed. These challenges include the breakthrough innovations that improve performance by sectors (solar, wind, etc..) as well as the management of intermittent adaptation via network (smart grid) and increased storage capacity.
What will be the strategy for dealing with these technical challenges?
What ‘disruptive’ technologies will enable renewables to find their place in the European mix? What innovations will increase storage capacity?
What are strategies to better integrate renewables into local, national and international networks? What are the implications for the European Commission’s 20-20-20 goals?
