Crossing the Digital and Income Divide: Making Mobility Innovations Accessible to All

Wednesday, February 18th, 2015, 1:00pm - 4:00pm PST

Meeting in San Francisco

This workshop is a continuation of the Urban Mobility series held by AGRION, Perkins+Will, and UC Berkeley's Transportation Sustainability Research Center (TSRC):

Evolving Urban Mobility -  A New Regulatory Environment

Urban Mobility Workshop: Public-Private Collaboration and Data Sharing

Public/Private Urban Mobility Data Sharing: Evaluating Security and Privacy Solutions

Effective, efficient, and reliable transportation options are critical for enabling a quality standard of living, and access to equal opportunity for people of all demographics. Although the digital age has brought on many benefits related to consumer mobility such as a higher level of engagement and stronger communication channels, the digital divide separating privileged and underprivileged communities has never been greater.

As the trend towards mobile and digital use technologies continues to grow, many demographics aren't effectively being accounted for in the design and planning process of mobility access. Our expert panel will address many of the questions, concerns, and challenges surrounding the transportation equity paradigm, and explore possible solutions to ensuring that there continues to be safe, sustainable, and reliable modes of transportation for all of the population.

Some questions to be addressed during the panel include:

-What demographics are being left behind and why?

-What is keeping certain demographics from utilizing existing modes of transportation available to them?

-What are the right questions to be asking to start a dialogue around the needs of specific neighborhoods?

-How do you drive adoption and penetration within communities that have already existing solutions?
