Measuring GHG Emissions Throughout the Supply Chain

Wednesday, February 6th 2013, 9:00 am - 11:30am PT/ Streamed Panel Discussion: 9:30am-11:00amPDT/ 12:30am-2:00pm EDT/ 6:30pm-8:00pm (Paris-Frankfurt)

Meeting in San Francisco

Creating and managing a sustainable supply chain is rapidly emerging as a strategic imperative. Companies are increasingly being held accountable for the environmental damage and societal impacts that occur beyond their own operations in their supply chains. In fact, the supply chain environmental impacts are typically 7-10 times greater than direct impacts.

Measuring and reporting indirect GHG emissions in the supply chain, known as Scope 3 emissions, enables a company to better manage their GHG-related risk and opportunities and identify where the largest potential for abatement lies throughout the entire life cycle of their operations.

Yet the challenges of gaining visibility and exercising influence globally across multiple tiers are significant. In addition, methodologies and boundaries for calculating and analyzing Scope 3 emissions vary and data is much less reliable than for Scope 1 and 2 emissions reporting.

This panel brings together experts who will describe, debate, and recommend strategies for gaining visibility and exercising the needed influence to implement a winning sustainable supply chain strategy as well as describe various methodologies for measuring and reporting Scope 3 GHG emissions.

Agenda

  • Definition of Scope 3 emission reporting, rationale for measuring GHG emissions throughout the supply chain
  • Methodologies
  • Discussion: challenges, pros and cons of various methodologies
