On May 17th, 2011 AGRION hosted a seminar on "Sustainability Officer Role & Responsibilities" where we discussed Sustainability positions, what they entail and the goals for such roles. Now we will take a deeper look into measuring Corporate Sustainability and translating this information into successful management in order to drive sustainability efficiently and effectively across a corporation.
1. Corporate Sustainability Initiatives
- What current corporate sustainability projects are on the forefront of corporate sustainability and energy management?
- What are the overall goals for corporate sustainability? Who drives these initiatives?
- How are sustainability teams organized and who initiates new projects?
2. Measuring Data: Cost and Energy Savings
- How do the majority of Energy and Sustainability Managers measure success?
- What tools, software and other services are available to measure and help aid this relatively new mission statement?
- How do Energy and/or Sustainability Managers choose the best software and tracking tools to help them achieve their specific goals?
- What are the largest barriers for accurate translation of data into real cost and energy savings?
- Sustainability initiatives within a corporation span across multiple sectors of a business (telemarketing, supply chain management, manufacturing, building management…). Are software applications for measuring energy usage more applicable in some sectors than others?
3. Translating Data into Successful Project Management
- You have all this data, now what do you do with it?
- For managers that have different locations, how do you prioritize regions? And how do you manage these geographic variables?
- How do you prioritize each sector of a business (telemarketing center, supply chain, building management manufacturing…) as well as implement processes and initiatives in areas outside your own within a company? Does this take an “all hands on board approach”?
- Does the data at this point help motivate a company to see progress on a spreadsheet?
