EcoDistricts: Constraints, Investments & Rewards (Full Day Conference)

Tuesday, September 25, 2012, 8:30am - 3:30pm PDT/ Streamed Panel Discussion: 9:00am - 2:30pm PDT / 12:00pm - 5:30pm EDT / 6:00pm - 11:30pm (Paris-Frankfurt)

Meeting in San Francisco

The EcoDistricts meeting on September 25th will be Part I of a two part seminar series discussing the future of city planning and development, and energy distribution, production and consumption in cities and regions around the world. Part II is entitled The Distributed Energy Economy (Full Day Conference) and will take place on October 18th.

An EcoDistrict, according to the Portland Sustainability Institute, is “a neighborhood or district with a broad commitment to accelerate neighborhood-scale sustainability. EcoDistricts are designed to achieve ambitious sustainability performance goals, guiding district investments and community action, and tracking the results over time.”

The idea of covering this issue has been brought forward by Agrion members because while creating a Smart City may take a generation and partnerships from multiple state and federal agencies, an EcoDistrict can be built in a matter of years with local strategic partnerships between corporations and local governments.

This event will bring together various stakeholders to meet, debate, and network to begin essential conversations addressing the barriers and solutions involved in developing an EcoDistrict.  Stakeholders will meet potential collaborators and ultimately strengthen the network of professionals that are working to transition the world away from the carbon intensive economy in which we all live.

The EcoDistricts Charette held on 8/7 determined the following agenda and the main themes for each panel discussion which will include Legal Issues, Financial Barriers, Public/Private Partnerships, and Asking the Right Questions.
