The Distributed Energy Economy (Full Day Conference)
Thursday, October 18, 2012, 11:30am-7:00pm PDT/ Streamed Panel Discussions: 12:15pm-6:00pm PDT / 3:15pm-9:00pm EDT / 9:15pm-3:00am Paris-Frankfurt
Distributed energy resources are typically smaller energy generation technologies (e.g. solar, wind, geothermal, hydro) which are located close to the point of consumption. The current electric grid is quite the opposite: centralized large generation plants, with long transmission lines to distribute the energy to the electricity consumers.
This meeting will feature experts who will discuss their vision of why and how the centralized grid is being replaced by distributed energy, and what the Distributed Energy Economy will become by 2015.
The benefits of a much higher percentage of energy from renewable technologies, and development of distributed energy, include:
- Reducing greenhouse gas emissions
- Greater energy independence
- A more secure energy supply
- A more reliable energy supply
- Less price volatility
- Reduced transmission line congestion
- Reduced need for transmission lines
- Stimulating a stronger economy and associated jobs
- Providing not only baseload power, but peak shaving, smoothing, and shaping, and backup power
